Since 1995, more than 150 life sciences and technology companies have begun their journey in the VA Bio+Tech Center in downtown Richmond. Approximately one-quarter of those have evolved from research performed at Virginia Commonwealth University, and the remaining have been entrepreneurs and scientists from across the country and around the globe.
As a member, you’ll have access to the Bio+Tech Center’s modern facilities and amenities. The Center is equipped with 9 wet laboratories, office suites, a shared lab, and 22 private furnished offices.
Our benefits and programs are developed with founders in mind. We do our best to provide you with opportunities you might not find elsewhere, with the goal of connecting you to valuable resources, mentors, investors, and our community.
Start-ups joining our community can also take advantage of membership to Virginia Bio, our statewide trade association representing the life sciences industry.
The City Of Richmond offers several ways to assist start-ups joining Activation Capital including rebates on real estate tax, relocation, machinery and equipment, pending fund availability.
Attend community events organized by Activation Capital, spanning from office hours to educational workshops to social gatherings.
As a member of Activation Capital, you may be able to use VCU’s CORE Facilities at a discounted rate. Access to select online journals may also be available.
Each member receives a mailbox & mailing address, copier, and complimentary coffee and water as part of your membership.
Members can take advantage of discounted purchasing through vendors like Thermo Fisher, and also access shared lab equipment such as an autoclave, DI water, ice and cold storage.
Activation Capital members receive domestic and international shipping discounts with UPS.
Members receive complimentary meeting space in several board rooms and breakout rooms. We also have larger event space available to rent at discounted rates.
Bike share and scooter program offered throughout the City of Richmond, as well as, a discounted gym membership to facilities on the VCU campuses.

Virtual memberships to the VA Bio+Tech Park give you access to our life sciences and advanced technology community without the commitment to physical space. The virtual membership consists of our regular Bio+Tech Center benefits including a dedicated mailbox, access to meeting spaces, discounted services, and opportunities to connect with others in the Park.
Bio+Tech One is home to a number of VCU offices and laboratories.
Bio+Tech Two is home to the Virginia Department of Forensic Science and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Bio+Tech Six is home to The Division of Consolidated Lab Services (DCLS), which performs over 6 million public health and consumer protection tests a year.
Bio+Tech Seven is home to the headquarters office and data center for the United Network for Organ Sharing.
Bio+Tech Eight is home to VCU’s College of Engineering and Institute for Engineering and Medicine, Medicines for All Institute, Phlow Corporation, Immunarray, TCG Green Chem, VCU Health labs and state labs.
Bio+Tech Nine is home to Altria’s Center for Research and Technology.
