Activation Capital began its “Science Rocks” speaker series with an entertaining and inspiring evening featuring Dr. Raven Baxter, aka, “Dr. Raven the Science Maven.”
A molecular biologist, science communicator, educator, and entrepreneur, Dr. Baxter has focused her talents and energy on inspiring students to pursue scientific careers, while also making science more accessible and culturally relevant.
The audience followed her journey from a little girl who preferred watching The Weather Channel to cartoons, to a student exploring new scientific pathways, to her work in drug discovery research, and finally to becoming an internet sensation by performing science themed parodies of hip-hop songs. Attendees even got the chance to sing along to two of her most popular videos, “Wipe it Down” and “The Antibody Song.”
“Through her bold and creative approach, Dr. Raven is redefining what it means to be a scientist—and inspiring a new generation to imagine themselves in science,” said Beth O’Donnell, Activation Capital’s Vice President of Finance. “Her passion for making science accessible and inclusive is exactly what we hoped to spark with this series.”
