OrthoPreserve, Inc. is creating an artificial meniscus implant that will relieve chronic knee pain and prevent arthritis development for patients with knee injuries involving the meniscus. The meniscus has a critical shock absorbing function in the knee joint, but traditional treatments for a meniscus tear remove the damaged meniscus tissue, which can lead to recurring pain and accelerates joint degeneration.

OrthoPreserve’s implant mimics the natural knee tissue and replaces the damaged meniscus via a minimally invasive surgery, allowing for patients to recover quickly and return to normal activities while reducing the risk of arthritis and the need for a knee replacement. OrthoPreserve was awarded a National Institutes of Health (NIH) research grant to complete an animal study in sheep, demonstrating the implant is safe for use and protects the knee joint from degeneration.
